I currently live in the beautiful Swiss countryside with my husband, my dog, and my cat but I grew up in the US and spent most of my life in The Pacific Northwest, specifically in Seattle, WA, USA. So, “How did I end up here? and how did I come to start CURALYS?” Well, it is a bit of a long story, but I will try to make it a little shorter…
I spent my early years in Wisconsin, USA and eventually attended university there earning a bachelor’s degree in biology and anthropology. I worked as a contract archeologist for a time before attending a graduate program in health & wellness where I also taught a university course in health. I liked the process of teaching so much I enrolled in a separate graduate program in education, where I earned my master’s degree in education. I taught children of various ages for a few years before eventually leaving teaching for work in Human Resources. I then spent almost 25 years working in HR. I had the pleasure of working with some fantastic people as the Director of Human Resources for The Museum of Pop Culture (MOPOP) and finally at The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB), both in Seattle, WA.
By chance, while on vacation in Switzerland I met my husband, Dr. Lucas Liaudet. We were introduced by mutual friends who thought we would make a good match, and despite our initial skepticism, they were right! We fell in love and after a few years of trying to manage an intercontinental relationship (some of which was during COVID!) we decided to get married and that I should move to Switzerland since he was not ready to retire and could not practice medicine in the US. So, in December 2021, I packed my home into a shipping container, left my job and my entire life behind and moved halfway around the world with my dog and two cats, to Eclépens, Switzerland! We bought a large, old farmhouse in the countryside and began the lengthy process of renovation. It is a beautiful setting, and we love to share the space with family and friends, especially when the weather is nice.
Once I felt a bit more settled into life in Switzerland and some of our major house renovations were complete, I began to think about what I wanted to do next in my (career) life. I have always been interested in health and wellness and have become increasingly more interested in skin health and skin care as I have aged. I have also always wanted to run my own small business. So, I started to consider ways I could combine my interests and goals to create something which could also help people take better care of themselves. I decided to focus on facial skin care initially and build a practice based on current skin care science but which also provides a relaxing self-care experience for my clients. To obtain my credentials, I attended a 10-month facial skin care certification program, including facial electrotherapy, in the United Kingdom. Additionally, I continue to keep up on current scientific research in the field and attend ongoing courses and skill training programs online and in-person.
There are SO MANY products, procedures, ingredients, treatments, devices etc. available these days it can be hard to know what might actually be effective and worth a person’s time and money. I strive to help people sort through all that mess so they can make more informed decisions. Some things cost more but are highly effective while others may be cheap but basically useless. There are also many things that cost a lot but are not any more effective than less expensive versions which work very well. Helping educate people about what works and what does not, as well as offering them highly effective yet well-priced products and treatments within my repertoire (or pointing them towards the best treatments outside my scope) is my goal. I want my clients to feel that taking good care of themselves and their skin is easily manageable from both the time and effort they put in as well as the financial investment they make. Taking care of their skin should not be an unattainable luxury or burden.
I strive to gain the trust and respect of my clients and hope they will find their experience at CURALYS both useful and enjoyable.
